Increases hair growth

Locking open strands of hair actually strengthens the hair. I have personally witnessed three cases of locked hair(including my own hair) where the hair quality has improved drastically. Where there were bald patches now there is hair growth ! So if you're loosing hair, and don't really care about what others have to say about what you do. Get dreadlocks it's the best move against hair loss.

You don't have to shave your head if you decide not to have dreadlocks.

Hair once locked can't be open or straightened again. This gives the idea that one would have to shave his/ her head if they choose not to have dreadlocks anymore. Once you get dreadlocks, the hair that grows doesn't grow as dreads. This leads to straight unlocked hair at the roots, which continue as dreads. One can grow up to 2 inches of these straight hair and cut off the dreads if they choose to.

It is not true that only black people can have nice dreads.

Although the kind of texture Black/ African people have naturally, it makes it easier for their hair to lock, giving rise to fine locks of hair. This doesn't mean hair with different texture can't be locked. All kinds of hair with the right length can be made into dreadlocks.

One more common misunderstanding amongst the masses is that only Africans get their hair locked. Many cultures across the world have dreadlocks. Many religious devotees in India lock their hair as a tribute to Lord Shiva.

Simply not combing your hair isn't enough to get nice dreads

It is true that not combing hair leads to tangled hair which lock up naturally. Which is a method of getting dreads called the neglect method. In many cultures it is required that the wearer never comb his/ her hair. But the neglect method alone is not enough to get nice dreads. Most of the dreads with this method come out uneven. Also since the process takes time, one might actually loose interest and cut their hair. There are better and faster ways of doing dreads.

The process we use to make dreads is the needling/ crochet method. This is a way of using a needle with a hook at it's tip to weave a few strands together. Interlocking them from root to tip so that they never open. Hair locked with this method doesn't open on washing your hair.

Dreads require constant tightening as they grow, for this we use the knotting method, stitching method and crochet method.

Dreadlock Hairstylist at your doorstep, Hyderabad.

Hi !

My name is Salman, let me tell you about my journey with dreadlocks, I was inspired by the character Capt. Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. I had really silky hair, and after they grew long it got harder to manage and I started having a lot of hair fall. I always kept trying new and different hairstyles and was looking forward to try dreadlocks. I started learning about it, realizing that it would be a good option for me. A friend suggested to me that i grow dreads naturally i.e. without combing. Growing dreads naturally takes a lot of time and i got impatient. I started back combing (another way of getting dreads), but it wasn't as neat. I checked if there was a place to get this done in Hyderabad but couldn't find any. I found out that they charge 8000 rs. - 15000 rs. in Goa and Bangalore to lock the entire hair. Since i am an artist and had experience in hairstyling i decided I'll do it myself. I found out about the needling method, and started locking my own hair. and slowly over a period of 8 months, I completed locking all of my hair, due to the tightening of the loose strands, my hair line receded a bit but my hair fall reduced drastically. Now my hair is denser than it used to be. I thought I could help others who were looking for something like this for a reasonable price and posted it online.

Have long hair but find it hard to manage ? Want a hairstyle that requires very less maintenance ? A healthy and natural hairstyle which doesn't require any chemical or salon treatment ? Something that would look good on you every time, without grooming much ? I suggest you get your hair locked.

One requires a minimum length of 3 inches to lock hair. Dreads look better when longer, hence it would be best if your hair is at least shoulder length. All your hair can be locked into fine strands of dreads in just five sittings of three hours each. Any and all types of hair with the right length can be locked.

It is not true that hair must be kept dirty or unwashed to be locked.

One of the most popular questions asked to any person with dreadlocks has to be "do you take a bath/ wash your hair?" .It is a common misconception that hair that is locked shouldn't be washed or else it wont stay that way. People don't usually understand that it isn't really the washing but the combing that keeps the hair untangled. Also Dreadlocks gets stereotyped as a hairstyle of the "homeless" or "pot heads", the ones who don't bathe/ wash their hair often. This is not true. Dreadlocks is a very clean and healthy hairstyle. It doesn't require as much looking after as the normal hair but washing is an essential part of growing long and strong dreads.

Dreadlocks are just like normal hair. They are just a variation in the texture of what your hair looks like. It isn't a transformation or mutation that took place. The care and looking after although a little less does exist. Dreadlocks can be washed as easily as normal hair. Wash the same way a sponge is washed and rinse with good amount of water. Dreadlocks take slightly longer to dry than normal hair but wrapping them in a dry towel for 15 - 20 minutes would dry them quickly. You could also use a hair dryer to dry your dreads.
It is suggested that one uses a non-residue shampoo or soap for washing their dreads. Washing the scalp thoroughly, washing sections from roots to tips and then rinsing them under the shower is more than enough.

Dreadlocks: An overveiw

Dreadlocks, also called locks, a ras, dreads, "rasta" or Jata (Hindi), are matted coils of hair. Dreadlocks are usually intentionally formed; because of the variety of different hair textures, various methods are used to encourage the formation of locks such as backcombing. Additionally, leaving long hair to its own devices by not brushing or cutting the hair will encourage it to tangle together as it grows, leading to twisted, matted ropes of hair known as dreadlocks. The latter method is typically referred to as the neglect method. A common misconception is that those who have dreadlocks do not wash their hair, but this is usually not the case. Many dreadlock care regimens require the wearer to wash their hair up to twice a week (a normal amount for healthy, clean hair of any style)

Dreadlocks are hygienic, natural and healthy. They require a very low maintenance when compared to other hairstyles. Hair that is locked falls less compared to normal hair, so you can grow your hair really long without worrying about going bald. It also rids you of bad hair days and combing your hair. Any and all types of hair can be locked, the minimum length of the hair must be 3 inches. Dreadlocks is not a hairstyle in itself, rather a texture for your hair like curly or straight hair. Once you have dreads you can try various hairstyles !
